Outrunning Alzheimer’s

(An organized collection of blogs previously written and found elsewhere on this website. You may have already read them. They are posted in sequential order, first to most current, going down.)

This is a landing page for a series of blogs that never should have been. I didn’t intend to write about my husband’s diagnosis with Early Onset Alzheimer’s. But then again, we never dreamed he would actually have it, either. Even when his mother was diagnosed with it, and her mother may have also had it, it was the last thing on our minds as we raised our family.

Although I never intended to write about it, when writing is a passion and the disease eventually dictates your life, I suppose it is unavoidable. Have no fear I will write horrendous things that may will occur in one’s day to day life with such a disease. I will not; I hold my husband’s dignity dear. Instead, I have been writing about my response to it. Outrunning Alzheimer’s may sound like a simple-minded oxymoron that couldn’t be further from the truth, but it is my desperate attempt to ensure my husband Jim can live his life to the fullest. We will joyfully outrun Alzheimer’s until he wins the race. Until we win the race.

Begin here to see how our Outrunning Alzheimers journey begins:

While the next blog doesn’t mention Alzheimer’s, we made the decision while we still could together, to sell the house we raised our children in and downsize to a smaller place with no stairs, no carpets, and the potential to add a larger, accessible bathroom:

How kind of you to ask! We are hanging in there. We make the best of every day. I have been away from my blog for many months, and when I saw your message I thought it was meant for my friend whose blog you found me through (Alaska for Real). Please forgive me! Your concern makes me wonder if you have dealt with Alzheimers as well? Well wishes for you.
