About This Writer

Carla Kirkland is wife, mother of two sons, grandmother, writer, teacher, and lover of adventure. She has backpacked, hiked, and canoed in some pretty amazing places on two continents and placed exchange students in southern Illinois and Indiana from several European, Asian, and South American countries. Now that the kids are raised and retirement from a lifetime of teaching is on the horizon, it is time to explore new adventures. Almost ten years ago, Carla challenged herself to write a story and publish it to a blog site every week for a year. It fanned a spark she didn’t know existed in herself. She will revive and include some of those original stories alternately with new ones on this site, as she writes her first book. Her love is non-fiction, and memoir is her passion: a slice of quirky truth from someone’s life, whether hilarious or horrendous. Carla’s stories reflect this genre, and she will entertain and inspire with her own candid, quirky take on life. Her book, Elusive Spirits: Paranormal Memoir of a Smalltown Teacher, will share experiences, both hilarious and serious, from the realm beyond. We may expect unusual happenings in a cemetery, but what about in broad daylight in a cemetery while delivering flowers? In the shower? This woman has crazy things happen to her. In the car, at work, school, church, hiking with relatives. Look out, she will have you sporadically laughing while watching over your shoulder.
